    Re: fiberglass...

weave IMO is eaiser to work with. matte is jsut a pain in the ***. it de-strands all over your brush and leaves tons of stray hairs sticking up everywhere so your next layer has tons of bubbles. weave is silky smooth, and just as strong as matte for our purposes. maybe do one layer of matte in the middle of your weave, because matte is on average, thicker than weave. but from my expierences, weave is so much nicer, and ALWAYS try to do your last layer as weave with EXTRA RESIN, it will lessen your sanding by a TON of time and fill in alot of small areas. if you carpet, dont even worry about sanding, just round off really bumpy parts.

I prefer working with mat. Just pick up a package of each and work with them to see what you prefer, both will get the job done.

    Re: fiberglass...

my boss talked me into building a fiberglass box for his boy, for 2 RE 8's. and i got the stuff form car-quest (the shop has an account there)i asked for mat but when i got it it was the cloth... would i use it the same way? tear it in pieces? brush the resin it. like i said i used mat for my kicks, and i didn't know if the cloth would turn out right. also 2-8's in a 1 foot sealed box...does that sound pretty good. he's looking for a little bit of lower end but thinks my 2-12's is just way too outragously loud. and by all means doesn't want boomy bass, just you know drums, and such....does that sound good?

    Re: fiberglass...

id say 2 RE10s would be better suited than 8's, they just dont play bass like a bigger woofer. they just dont get low enough for normal rap without 4 or more.

maybe do a 1.5 box, and give them some good power. at least RMS, he can always turn it down. build most of the box outta MDF, then do the front\top in fiberglass. unless you are doing side pods.

and yes, cut the cloth into squares or strips, and use it exactally the same, brush on a layer of resin, apply some cloth, apply more resin, turn the cloth 45 degreese, apply more resin, repeat until you got 5~10 layers.

    easy as that.

    Re: fiberglass...

I prefer matte myself, I just rip it into small pieces, apply some resin, then lay the matte down on the resin, and apply some more.

he listens to country...and country only, i figured that 2-8's would do fine for that. and i'm not using any mdf, he doesn't want to have his seat forward ANY, so that leaves me like a max depth of like 5 1/2-6 inches at the bottom. i don't have a whole lot of room to spare, so i could use the extra 1/2 inch.

    Re: fiberglass...

k, i didnt know this was a truck.

    lol.

2 RE8s will do fine for that kind of music. but you should still make the baffle from MDF. and the back of glass. would be insanely simpler.
