built my first box!!! really bad pics...

well guys... since my SE's have been on vacation i havent
been neglecting my car audio... ive actually been quite
busy building my first box... not only my first box... but
    my first ported box...

its 1.8^3 after displacement and port area and its tuned
to 32hz as to RE's specs for a single SE 12"

i made it out of the usual 3/4 mdf which is very easy to
work with... the only tools i needed were a circular saw,
jig saw and a drill... odds and ends included some silcone
and gorilla glue and lots and lots of screws...

id like to thank those who helped me... but i dont know
if those people would like to be thanked publicly... but
    i do thank you...

this just goes to show that building your own box can be
done quite easily and at a much lower cost and higher
quality than buying a pre fab box... i think i spent less than
    50$ in supplies...

i know its not carpetted yet... but i will be doing that when
i get some time... right now its in my girlfriends car loaded
with a JBL 125 watt 12" sub... she used to have 2 12"s of
these JBL's sealed... but this single one ported is EVEN LOUDER
than the 2 sealed... its awesome!!!

i am rather proud of my first stab at box building and just
wanted to share and show anyone who may be leary of
taking this project on that it can be done by even the
newest of noobs... AND ITS WORTH IT!!!!

ok... im done... thanks for listening...

Re: built my first box!!! really bad pics...

the foam is just some packing foam i borrowed from
an empty box at work... i just used it to make absolutely
sure that the sub would seal in the hole... the gasket on
a buy one get one 3 year old sub is not exactly air tight...

when i load my SE it will be a lot nicer... that JBL was just
    for testing really...

i know you said your glad its loud... but the SQ hasnt dropped
off hardly any... well for that sub it wasnt the best anyways...
but it didnt get any worse... just a lot louder... i cant wait to
    get my SE in there...

where should a SSF be set to a box tuned to 32hz???????????????

the box is externally 21.5 wide about 16.5 tall and about 17 deep...
somewhere around there... its not exactly small... not sure the
    exact dimensions off hand...

The subsonic frequency filter should be tuned to 1/2 octave below tuning.

What is an octave you say?

So in your case, set the SSF to 32-[(1/4)32] = 24Hz

looks alright, good job. And glad you like it... Now, imagine what it would be like with (2) 12's...

Here is where the addiction starts

    Again, good job.

Re: built my first box!!! really bad pics...

thats basically like turning the SSF on and
barely turning it... which is pretty much what
i did... i wasnt too concerned with the sub
thats in the box now... but once i load my
SE in there i want to set it up right...

Re: built my first box!!! really bad pics...

Looks awsome. I am a noob and never built a box b4 myself. I was thinking of building sealed but after ur post I am not sure. Wanna help me to build a box? Since u prolly already did bunch of reserch and stuff. I have 2 10" alphasonics 200 serries lying around without roof over them it would be nice to place them in house with windows so screems could be herd miles and miles away .
Let me know if you have time to instruct me on the project.
    Nice job.

i do recommend a table saw... with the circular
saw you have to be pretty **** accurate... its

    one...

maybe ill let come caraudio members take a look
at the plans so i know ive got it right... but ****...
the box i built sounds great... so i hope i can do
    it again...

id love to get "good" at it and be able to build
boxes for people... its kinda fun and the shops
are such a rip off... i could use some $$$ for
more of my own car audio... need some help

Lol that was a joke by window I meant port. Well anyway my car is an old bimmer 635csi. And I have about 2.2 ft^3 to play around in the trunk. Here is the manual for the woofers I am using (its a psw210) http://www.alphasonik.com/200Series_Woofer.pdf My box is actually really simple. Its a right trapezoid looking that feets two woofers in it. So check it out and let me know if you are familiar with any of that stuff.
    Thanks -Greg.

Re: built my first box!!! really bad pics...

just one more question out of this post...

what kind of carpet should i use for the box and where
    should i get it...

i assume its just some sort of heavy duty indoor outdoor
stuff but i wanted to make sure... how much can i expect
    to pay for enough to cover a 16.5 x 21.5 x 14.75 [externally]
    inch box???

also... whats the best way to attach it? gorilla glue, staple gun???

    thanks.
