Off the wall box question for a project.

Ok, here goes. I am wanting to put a small system in my daughters Power Wheels. I have most everything figured out as to what im going to do except for the box. I will post some pictures to show you what I have. I will put it in that back area. Seeing as though it is going to be in open space, without a cabin, should I use a sealed or ported box. Should it face the front or out toward the back. I am gong to use a 5.25 Rockford that I have laying around. I want it to have a little thump to it. Understandably it won't have much. I am going to use it for a parade this coming spring. And just because I can. Thanks in advance.

seeing as its just a 5.25 id say go with the sealed box. and face it forward. you face the box backwards in a car to reflect the bass wave off of the rear of you vehicle to make a bass wave longer which is louder. however there is nothing to reflect off of so id face it forward. for the driver to hear.

No offense, really should read up on concepts before you go suggesting them to others.

My question for you Rattlebrain: What are you using for a source signal & are you using another speaker for the rest of the range?
If you're using something for fullrange with it then I would definately try to port it Whats the Fs on the 5.25? If its low enough, port it!

BTW Awesome Idea!! If you do it, Post up a couple Pics!!

yeah,i'd probably port it to try and get as much out of it as you can. a pained fiberglass enclosure would also look pretty cool! good luck, i wanna see pics when you get done.
and p.s. i don't think it's so much for the driver as it is for show(he said its gonna be in a parade) i would point it up for all to see!

The Fs is 60hz. I am going to use either a Pioneer or a Panisonic HU and a couple of 4.5 for the front. I will be using the HU to power the front and a small amp to power the sub.

Re: Off the wall box question for a project.

You may want to consider a home woofer if you can get one. Car subs actually tend to be worse at producing the real lows in the open, cause they are designed to factor in cabin gain. Home woofers are more able to work in an open area..... and definately port it, you'll need all the output you can get

Where are you getting the electricity for all this? May make the trip real short if you're running it off the stock battery

i dunno man i seen this done before at a db drag. this guy built his son a power wheels with a jvc deck two 10inch subs(wish i new the brand) mounted free air, they were hung under the rear bumber with just enough room too be able to ride around. and nice little 2ch amp with 2 4" speakers mounted up front ran off deck. funny thing was he had the son put on some ear muffs and do a feq sweep. mic read was 160db no bullshit. but the mic was placed right on top of the woofers. i stood right next to it and it was freakin loud. i wish i new how he built the thing so i could help yah out but i dont. but it sure is possible. no to mention really cute. kid loved it. he even got to ride around a real hot chick afterwards. heh it was really cool.
