Icon32 My first subwoofer Part 2 : Box design , help needed .. again

Hello there ! I'm back with a new lame thread This is thread #2 regarding my first sub , going forward with my system after i succesfully made the driver decision with your help (http://www.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=66032) Thank you everybody !

    So , i purchased the Alpine Type-R SWR-1241D.
    1. I want to put it in a ported box , according to Alpine recommendation i should be using a box with a volume up to 1.75 cu. ft. I think i'll be going with a 1.5 cu ft. box due to the fact that i'll power the sub with 350W. Is this a good volume ?

    2. After a bit of documentation and research , i think 32Hz would be the tuning freq. for what i want : Daily listening , no comps , turning a few heads maybe

    Is 32 Hz a good choice ?

    3. Regarding the actual construction of the box , i have to choose between 2 places , due to the fact that i got no place and no tools to build it myself.
What should i be looking for to get a quality box ? What should i check out on boxes they previously made to see if they're good ?

What questions should i ask ? <- I'm good at asking questions , you noticed that , lol

I guess that would be all. I really appreciate if somebody can give me some tips , or at least a link to learn more about what i want

    Thank you in advance !
    Regards,
    Ovi.

1.5 cu. ft. ported to 32Hz sounds real good.

Good to hear that NeonRider , that will be my choice then ! thanks !

pj_chevy03 , i'm from Romania , not US , so getting a box from US is not an option unfortunately

So what should i look for to see if a box is quality or not ?

made of at least 3/4" MDF, solid, should be able to jump on it, well sealed seams(you can do this by using silicon or glue and go over the corners, etc).

If you are having someone build it for you, give them the design you want. If you need help with that, someone here will help ya.

Yep , i'm going to have someone to build it for me ....... i kept trying to find a way to make the design myself , no luck though ... i tried all kinds of enclosure related software but all they can do is draw the woofer response (???). I found nothing to help me. It's going to be a wedge shaped box.

Well size it to fit in your car, aim for 1.5 cu ft like you want.

For the port, get them to use a piece of 3" PVC and cut it to 10.2075 inches.

For the calculator I used, just go to:

    Thanks a lot man !

First i was thinking about getting a rectangular port , what would be the advantages of that instead of a round one ?

why not build it yourself? then take pride when someone asks who built the box

I keep thinking ... won't 1.5 cu.ft. be too much ? I love my sub and i don't want to make him suffer

no, 1.5 will be fine. With the ported box, and 350W RMS, it will sing.
