Box for MA Audio D6 15

I am going to be helping a friend build a box for his MA Audio D6 15" woofer. I know it's not the greatest woofer, but it's all he has.

I looked on MA Audio's site and noticed the recommended 4.5 cubic feet with 37 square inches of port 14.5 inches long.

Does that sound good to you guys? Also, what would happen if I made the box 4.5 cubes (after displacement) but the port was 36.25 square inches instead of 37? Does the tuning go up/down?? How else will it affect the sound?

    Thanks for your help.

Just because if I made the box 16" on the face where the speaker mounts, that would be 14.5 internat. Then I could make the port 2.5" wide, an easy number to work with, which would give 36.25.

I guess I could just make the port 2.55 or whatever wide, just seems a bit harder. Nothing really though.

If the box is 4.5 cubic feet after ALL displacement (woofer, port) then a port that is 14.5" deep, 2.5" wide and 14.5" tall will result in a tuning of roughly 32hz.

Re: Box for MA Audio D6 15

Ok thanks a lot man. I think that tuning should be good for what my friend is looking for. I hope the sub sounds alright for him. It'll be his first sub and it was hella cheap.

I'll probably build the box tomorrow.

    Thanks,
    Craig G
