Re: Sealed 12 or ported 10

Appreciate all the help on this but........I think it's going to be a much easier install if I go with a single sealed 12. The limited space is killing me on the system but that's not why I bought the truck.

Was asking about the db A3 amps vs the Massive NX5. As far as space goes I think the NX5 will be the way to go for me. So, 800rms to a GCON 12" in 1.5 cubes sealed should do way better than the bass wedge I'm using now.

Don't get me wrong, the bass wedge sounds good and clean just need something that can take more power. Then again it may all be in the cheap amp I'm using.

    Thanks again guys.

The Gcon will do great in a sealed enclosure. No worries there, and that is a good choice.

I think some people say the sub is better behind the driver's seat w/ the port side firing into the passenger's b-pillar, but my configuration seems to work fine.

Also, I don't know if you're making your box 1.62 cubic feet, but that is too big. I wouldn't go bigger than 1.5 ft^3. For port area, I think I have 14 square inches per cube, so I have 21 square inches total. To be honest, I would probably up the port area and tune to 35 if I could do it over again.
First of all, love your vid, not many icon 10 vids on youtube and i think yours is my fav.

I have a question. For what reasons would you have rather upped the port area and tune to 35?

And as for port/sub orientation. I was told that in most reg cab trucks you want it ported passenger, something about it being further from your ear so by the time it hits you it has loaded properly..Im not positive about all that but what i do know for sure is that when i played around with the idea i noticed that it definitely sounded a lot better and was louder in the driver seat vs passenger seat. Another good option is to port up.

Thank you! That makes me happy.

Well, I feel like since the port is so close to the b-pillar, then it may end up reducing the tuning frequency. Also, I don't know much about port area and its effects, but I think a bigger port may be more efficient; i also find big ports to be pretty aesthetic. And going to 35 from 33 isn't much of a difference, but I think I have more music that could benefit (be louder ) from the higher tuning frequency. At the same time though, I have some low bass music, so its a win lose situation.

That makes sense. Now I want to make a new box! Part of the reason I did the sub on the passenger side though is because I can push back my driver's seat a tiny bit more without the sub needing room to move. I may try a new box with port on the passenger side.
I put answers in bold. In the end, I gotta say that I still crave more bass, and I dream of doing a 4th order blowthrough, but that would take quite a bit of resources.
