    Sub and port direction.

Which is the best way to face a sub in the trunk of a car. Up, front, back. Then i want to use slotted ports but i have just a little less room for them on the same side as the subs. Is it alright to face the ports, say to the inside of the car(rear seats fold down) and have the subs face back. Or vise versa. I can put the ports on the same side but i don't want to lose my tuning.

    Re: Sub and port direction.

Well, it doesnt matter if the speaker and the port are on different faces of the box.
9/10 facing the subs toward the taillights is going to be the loudest, when you face subs or the ports toward the trunklid it not only rattles the heck out of your trunklid but it also cuts some of the overall loudness.
IMO facing the subs toward the taillights and firing the port into the cabin through the rear seat or whatever the case may be is going to be your best bet.

So firing the ports into the cabin i am not going to lose loudness. I have been talking to some other people and they say try to have the ports on same side of sub. THANKS FOR THE HELP! I appresiate it.

    Re: Sub and port direction.

Honestly since firing the speakers towards the rear is louder it could only be louder with the addition of the port. What im saying is as far as ability for the box to function "correctly", it doesnt matter if the speaker and port face different sides. A while back I was disappointed with my score because I cant fold my seat down, But, I could fold my rear armrest down to reveal the trunk. I decided to fire the port into the cabin w/ the subs facing rear. I hit an identicle 146.6 the next comp. The thing is I was running 2 inhumans with over 5 cubes including dispalcment, since then I ran a single inhuman and hit 151.4. It really is the physics, mathematics, and finding what your individual vehicle likes that gets you loud.

Having a mic has helped a bit too..

Okay what do you think of this idea: Face one sub to the rear of the car and put it's port on the same side then face one sub to the front of the car and puts its port on the same side as that sub. Ideas please! i need them!!!!!!!!

Would having the sub face the tail-lights and the port face the left side of the car? In other words, the port opens on a face of the box 90 degrees from sub.

no because my box is going to be right against walls. In other words my front and rear are the only things visible evething will be tight up aginst walls. No air movement

    Re: Sub and port direction.

Its what your car likes that is going to yield the best results. Asking others opinions is only going to get you so far. Just build boxes until your happy with the finished product, but I would start off with what you were suggesting, subs back port forward......

Thanks for the imput i think that is what i am going to do. Most people on here seem to know what they are talking about so i figured i would get several opinions before i invest time in making a box.

What about possibly porting through the rear deck. Would that make for better sound.

    Re: Sub and port direction.

If you can do that, it's worth a try. Most of the time more output comes from the port rather than the actual driver in a ported enclosure. So firing it off the rear glass would definately be worth a try almost like a port firing off a hatchbacks' glass. To be honest alot of people cut holes the rear deck to just get some more air into the cabin, it sounds like a good idea to me.
