Re: need box plains for 1997 gmc 1500 ex cab

Not sure what the specs are on those subs. But with the room to work with in my opinion I would go sealed, but I would also use a sub best suited for sealed or go with 10's ported and down fire the subs with a front fire slot port. I'm no expert in any means but would be my thought for a under seat in a ext cab chevy since I've owned a couple and know the tight room. I'm actually gonna add 10's under my back seat of my crew cab chevy in individual box's. From what I've seen the crew cab in my opinion has more room but not a lot for 12's or I would use those since I have both.
If you went with the earthquake shallow mount subs it would'nt be a issue with clearance.
Take what I've mentioned with a grain of salt since like I mentioned I'm no expert.
I'd say measure what room you have to work with and figure out if manufacturer smallest enclosure suggested will work.
    Hope that helps. Russ

Re: need box plains for 1997 gmc 1500 ex cab

You do not have enough air space or even mounting depth for 12” subs in that truck
Even 10” subs are hurting for space and depth

Gonna sound like azz compared to how it could with a smaller sub with proper airspace.

I have tried a couple different boxes that claim those same specs and it wasn't even deep enough to hold a 10" Icon which is 6" deep. Even a 10"q under the seat didn't perform that well in the same box. I've had many many different setups in mine and the prefab under the seat setups just aren't very impressive. You should look into some of this Order Mild Steel A36 Square Tube in Small Quantities at OnlineMetals.com and have it cut to a custom length, I went with 2" X 2"(8 inches long). Raise the seat a couple inches and you will gain alot more space than you realize and have the room to go ported. Front fire the subs and put the port coming out the side. I know one guy on here lifted his 4" and was able to port four 10's recently, I'm raising mine 2" and am going to be able to fit four sundown sa-8's ported.
