    Transmission Line Enclosure for Boomintahoe

This is a design that I've been working on for boomintahoe. Figured I'd post some pictures and get your opinons. It still needs a little work to integrate the plate amp into it. I'll have to make a separate chamber on the back for it.

Anyways, this enclosure is for a single 8" Dayton subwoofer. It will be used in a home theater setup. This enclosure is a transmission-line style enclosure and has a line length of 11.5' (yes, that's feet, not inches) and is tuned to 25Hz

Laying down some guidelines... this gets tedius

Port line walls mapped out... all 11.5 feet of it Pain in the *** measuring out all of those ****ed 45 degree braces...

    Walls put up

    Hole for sub.

Just realized though that the dayton 8" driver has a big *** magnet assembly and has a 4.5" mounting depth. Looks like I'll have to figure out something with the baffle or the sub will have to be ran inverted because the port is only 2" wide.

Re: Transmission Line Enclosure for Boomintahoe

Alright, so I came up with the idea to just use an extra ring, kinda like you would in a door speaker to gain some depth. I made it that shape just it wouldn't look gay as just a ring. I think it looks somewhat interesting

A little added graphics to give it that fit'n'finished look.

Still needs a bit of work to incorporate the plate amp. It's not a done deal yet, but let me know what you guys think.

I was thinking about something almost identical to that to space it, lol

Yeah, don't get me started on drawing each individual 45 brace and rounding each port end piece. It got tedious but it should sound great in a H/T setup and have a good response off very little power.

Wow. That's gonna be an interesting build. Good thing I'm almost done cleaning out my garage to free up space for projects like this! Oh so I can park my SUV in it too.

Yeah, nice thing is though, all the port pieces are the same length and are identical. All you've gotta do is set the length on your fence and table saw and just make multiple passes. The same ease can't be said for rounding over everything and actually constructing it... but oh well, it'll sound nice

Re: Transmission Line Enclosure for Boomintahoe

After you redo the area for the plate amp, I did some calculations for the mounting depth of the sub and that little baffle is nice but still needs a little more...the back of the magnet will still hit the "port wall". Anyway, I'll let ya reconfigure...lookin' good tho.

Re: Transmission Line Enclosure for Boomintahoe

Hmm, might just need to make that baffle a tad thicker then. Or add another trim ring ontop of it. I'll think of something that looks somewhat nice

Keep in mind that the windows are not very large on that driver and airflow will be restricted due to the thick baffle if provisions aren't made.

So to start a thread simply to state that clipping does not hurt speakers is, again, a half-truth at best.

i think if you made the box shorter, the port would have to be wider, which would give you some more clearance for the sub to be mounted without the lil spacer thing.

True, but then the box would be really wide and/or deep. I'll let boomin comment though, it's going in his H/T setup, not mind
