I got a sound splinter rlp 15.. and its in like a sealed 3 cubic feet box...sounds ok but ppl tell me to go ported....

Optimal Home:
4.6 cu ft net volume sealed

Optimal Car:

3.5 cu ft net volume vented, Fb = 28 Hz

Depends on your tastes. I always try to stay pretty close to recommended specs. I like the general sound that recommended achieves, as it's been tested extensively by the manufacturer, and the specs add up well.

i see..taste as in? louder? cleaner? what about tuning ..ive never done this..it says 28.. if i go higher whats it mean? lower?

Well, usually... the smaller, the cleaner, the bigger, the louder.
There are many variables, but I always suggest to people who ask me for designs / to build their box to stay as close to recommended as possible. Some people just like huge enclosures with a lot of power.


NOTE: The smaller the enclosure, the more power handling the sub will have.

ok...so for me , i would like between loud and clean and somewhat low so i feel it.... stick to rec. specs?

Ehsan, there's some free designs in this section somewhere, there should be a 3.5 cu. ft. box in there. I'll check SS's site and check for more info. But more than likely 3.5 cubes at 30hz would be pretty nice. Sq subs I've seen are made to be tuned lower (SS, TC, etc) SPL subs are more for higher tuning (DD, AQ, etc). But you can probably tune the RLP to 28hz as reccomended and still have decent output in those ranges. Also you'll probably need to figure out how much port area the RLP needs, usually it's 12-16'' of port per cubic foot. I used 39 sq inches on my BL, and it has NO air turbulence, and moves hella air.
