can silicone be blown out?

I had this pesky rattling sound and I couldnt figure out what the heck it was. Finally i took a look at the back of the box where i drilled a small hole for the speaker wires. I had some clear silicone there but i guess i didnt do a good job or let it dry long enough since a chunk was hanging out and it was very easy for me to tug on the wires and have them move.

So, i put the box on its front and then put silicone in the opening. Then i pushed the wires into the box so hopefully the silicone penetrates to the inner side of the hole. Then i put silicone all around the wires generously.

I'll let this dry for 24hrs, after curing is there a chance that the pressure could just blow the silicone right out again?

Yes there is always that possibility. That's why I use bolts for speaker connections.

Yes, it can happen again. One thing you might want to try is putting the silicone on the hole from the inside of the box. The pressure is pushing on the silicone from inside the box, so building it up from the inside is better than only doing from the outside of the enclosure.

lol i really dont wanna open the box up so hopefully this holds up well. I'll let it cure for 48 hours maybe since its pretty cold up north right now. I'll check it in about a week and hope its stil there

I started using gorilla glue since it expands and easily fills any gaps there may be...I tried pulling the wire out and it was pretty damn hard to get them to break loose.

ill give it the pull test as well. If it breaks loose, then ill try the gorilla glue method

Thats why I use wood glue in all my seams

you should tie a knot in the wire inside the box so it cant be pulled out, then silicone it. If you move the box for whatever reason, the wire could pull on the sub terminals and short.

Better off using a cigarette lighter, put that in front of the hole and see if the flame flickers when you play music, if it moves then you still have a leak.

i dont have any on hand, and this is a very small hole just enough for 2 speaker wires to pass.
