Building a sealed and ported enclosure...

I got my MDF today, and have plenty to make two boxes. So I'm going to build a sealed enclosure that I know I can successfully make, and use.

I would like to build a ported box with the extra MDF, just to see if I will like it better. But need some major help/advise with building.

It will be housing a 12" Brahma, with approx. 850 watts running to it. I don't want to use a round port, but have no idea how to go about building a slotted port, or what to tune it to.

I want to keep a nice balance of SQ and SPL, so 50/50 pretty much...or maybe even 60(spl)/40(sq). So I figured something like 32~36?

I've been told how to generally start on the slotted port, but I'm lost after that. I was told to pretty much make a sealed enclosure that is 2.9 cu. ft. and then go about cutting out the holes for the ports and the sub. But that figure was for round ports.

Any help with port length and size would be greatly appreciated.

you can download winISD pro, i know someone on here knows where from. it will help calculate port length and give you response curves so u can play around till u get the one u like. sometimes this program can be kinda off so u might wanna check it manually with the formula on the jl audio website.

I got WinISD Pro downloaded, but I am lost with it...call me WinISD stupid.

I just need to know how long and wide to build the port and how to go about building it, as I've never built a box before.

What amp are you using the power the Brahma, just curious Im trying to gather some option for my Brahma that I will be getting.

Either an Avionixx AXT800.2 or a Hifonics BX1000d...haven't quite decided yet.
