I am planning my next build and was thinking about useing 1" MDF ($50 a sheet)but there is a local place that has sheets of 5\8 MDF for $6.25 a sheet(nothing wrong with it either). Will double layering it be equal to 1" for strangth?

Most people use 3/4ths MDF wood
Its about 30 bucks a sheet at home depot

21 bucks here. .75
3/4 is what I always have used to, but the box is going to be tall and shallow and I was thinking stiffness

there are some places that carry 1 1/4 MDF

2x.75"=1.5"
I found one place but 60 miles away and $65 a sheet thats why I was asking about doubleing up on 5/8th. would it be better to go with just 1" or 1 1/4?
3/4" thick with some bracing should do just fine for most enclosures...

.75" and properly braced will be a better box and lighter. Proper bracing > double baffle for subs on large boxes too.

It really vastly depends on what subs, what kind of power you're running, and the dimensions and type of box.
For example, a box for a pair of plain ol' vanilla JL W1s with 500RMS won't need to be nearly as overbuilt as a box for a single BTL 15 with 2000 watts.![]()

I have heard of a few people using HDF and the general consensus I got out of it was that it's not really worth it. No performance gain at all, but I'd love to hear if anyone has concrete numbers to prove otherwise...
