Look around for a local fabric store. Best place IMO.
Real leather isn't going to be cheap though

Anything of that consistency is going to be a real pain to work with, so expect to use lots of heat and patience to get that to stretch uniformly...

go to your local upholstery shop. we have a clearance rack that is always stocked with full hides of leather for $89 a hide. Get it in leather and get the box done up in double-stitch with a contrasting thread color. would look pretty dope.
