    spl-ported sq-sealed

I know this is true, but why do you get more spl out of ported and better sq out of sealed?

you move air further with less resistance--so more spl, but simultaniously loose pressure on the cone causing it to move somewhat slower--so less sq-- I asked this question a while back and that was the best answer I got.

This isn't really my area, but it has to do with the restrictions placed on the driver/sub.
I have seen people build huge sealed boxes to gain more SPL and get it to hit a bit lower. @ the same time I have also seen people tune a ported enclosure lower and get pretty good SQ. There are exceptions. It has a lot to do with your knowledge of drivers, and physics. And some very adaptable box building programs.
