subs facing up?

I was wondering is there any difference if you mount subs on the top of a box facing up instead of the side. cuz I got to build a box for 4 15's and i dont have enough area except if i make the box small in height ,large in width and depth is there any change in SQ/SPL .. the box is going in the trunk and probably going to be ported.

are you going to have room room for 4 15s and a large port hole..i have 4 12s, sealed and i dont have any room left.. but this is also a small civic..and yes, their will be a differnce..youll be sending the sound waves in a wrong direction.. but it will still be loud as ****

Yeah I got the room my car is a 73 LeSabre so I have a huge trunk... but thats what I thought would happen with the soundwaves maybe I'll use 3 15's instead of 4 then I might be able to mount them the way I want. thanx
