need help designing new box for maw15s

    hey, I currently have 2 mach 5 maw15s in a 3.5cuft sealed box.

However it doesnt use the trunk space very well, as there is alot of wasted space it seems, and the subs could definitely use a larger box.

So i want to build a new one that uses up as much as, if not all of the trunk if i can, which is going to mean its gonna have to have some angles and stuff to accomodate the trunks shape.

The car is a 92 eagle talon, i can get the exact measurements of the trunk if necessary. I was thinking a sealed box as i probably wont have room for a proper ported one, but if i do that would be sweet as well

you may have best luck building the box inside the car. this way you can really maximize the space and possibly port it too.

yeah, i was thinking of building it in the car...ill prolly have to do some of it in the car, but maybe i could do the bottom and sides and put that in and then put the top on when its in the car or something...right now im just looking for a good design, and im willing to pay a buck or a few for the design i end up using

Re: need help designing new box for maw15s

Those subs dont like ported enclosures all that much...as for a sealed, the smaller, the higer the output at 50-60 hz, then it drops pretty fast going down to 20-30...

I really dont know what to do for you...you can just wing this box making it 5-6 cubes if you got the space, maybe try some polyfill, then you'll get more lower end responce out of the box.

The ported enclosure will give you more output, but the curve is not very flat, it's kinda peaky, but it did not seem too bad. Just fill it up with polyfill.

Re: need help designing new box for maw15s

Well because the trunk was so complex, I figured I could give you a target volume, and a port size, so that you can work around the trunk.

I'd need a lot of measurements to figure out the best way to use the space in your trunk, and doing that over the internet is a pain.

How many cubes do you have in the trunk? roughly?

Re: need help designing new box for maw15s

I bet two dollars that the candy is still there.

hmmm so it's a hatch back...that makes it much much easier to put a box in there...the problems with trunks is that the opening is a lot smaller than the trunk.
Oh and I was talking abotu packing peanuts that you find in boxes for shipping.

Re: need help designing new box for maw15s

i went and measured the trunk today, this is what i got...however i noticed that i would prolly get alot of extra space if i took the floor out and the spare tire, which i might consider if i cant get an adequate box out of what i have...
