does it matter how deep an enclosure is?

If I was to invert a subwoofer and make an enclosure really long but only about 2.5 inchs deep (internally) would it matter as long as the airspace is correct? The reason I ask because I am thinking of making an enclosure that is 45x4x11 (outside specs) That gives me .6 airspace. Thanks
