    Benefit of Double Baffles?

I've been curious about this for awhile...

I see many folks using double baffles on here...

I've built many boxes ranging from 3 to 7.5 cubes (fully braced) and have never used double baffles...

What is the benefit that people see from the double baffles?

    Thanks.

    Re: Benefit of Double Baffles?

Hmm, I've never had any of these issues with a fully braced box...

Has anyone ever added a second baffle (say to the front or some panel that was flexing) and just went wow -- that's so much better? If so was your box brace very well?

I know that the second baffle provides for a denser/stiffer box (in theory) but in reality (depending on the circumstances) you may not even need it...

Fully bracing the front baffle of a box is much more time consuming IMO than just throwing a second layer of MDF on.

    Re: Benefit of Double Baffles?

If you use wood screws to mount the sub, it gives you more depth of wood to support the driver. Makes that panle less likely to flex from the weight of a really heavy driver as well.

    Re: Benefit of Double Baffles?

I would much rather double baffle then put rods, or wood supports inside the box that would impede air flow etc.......

Yep, I can agree and see that it's a good idea for a woofer side double baffle...this doesn't make the boxed fully braced though...

I tend to see less of a value in double baffling all sides of the box...

To each his own, I guess...

Better structural integrity, flush mount, and a great way to get rid of left over wood.
