    sub box question...

I'm kind of new to car audio and I think im going to install myself. What kind of box will give me hard hitting but nice and accurate hits? Maybe someone could recomend a good website or company to look into for buying a box? (a box for 2 10" eclipse AL)

i would reccomend building your own box: the two types of boxes are ported and sealed. if you want more volume, then go with ported. if you want more SQ...then go with sealed. sealed are much easier to build...but you can get ported boxes to sound good

You think its too much money? It will cost you under $50 to build your own box. A custom box could cost you anywhere from $100->$400. A well thought out, DIY box is better than any pre-fabricated box ever made. Wouldnt you like to save money?

I'de like to save the money but I'm already thinking I'm going to screw it up. I am good with my hands and all but I think I'de need a book on making a box. Do you have any suggestions on where to get that info? I'm reading "auto audio" as I type and its just now getting into boxes. C'ya.

Find the box section on the left.

Build your own box and save money man...its very easy, invite a friend over one afternoon sometime and get him to help you..

alright, I just finished reading that 400 page "auto audio" book and I have a better understanding about basically everything. I think I am going to build my own and do my own install, it just seems like if I build it I'll know I didnt get ripped off. I'll have to find out the recomended box size now and all that. I have a couple months to do some homework on all of it. The book said a sealed, MDF board, butt joint is the best way. Also, it said a trapezois box is superior to a rectangular one, sounds interesting to me, what do you all think?

Yeh, I was thinking there wouldnt be much difference but a rectangular would e way easier. I just calculated a sealed box for a 10" eclipse, its 1.08 cubic feet. For 2 10's do I keep the same box dimensions just center the 2 subs?

oh, i made a mistake here. Theres a very simple looking chart in this book telling me anywhere from 1.0-1.5 is fine, but heres the more precise equation...

    maximum box volume = 1.1 x Vas x Qt^2

for the eclipse 10" the Vas = 2.10cuft and the Qts = .47

Im to tired to figure it right now, im having prblems functioning at this hour. Tomarow I'll get back on and work with it.
