Icon10 Template built need advice on FINAL build!!

Finally got around to building the tempalte and need some final advice. This will be my first amp rack build EVAR!!!!
    Question I have are:
What is the best wood to use for the base, and to mount the amps to?
To mount the amps at an angle what is the method and material (L-brackets?)

    Thanks.

mdf, particle board, plywood, no matter what ever you got. It will be coverd by carpet... it is going to be covered right? Are you going to fiberglass? or do it in wood exactly like you have shown. method and material could be a mitered piece of wood with accurately matching angled pieces of wood as braces from behind. Probably easiest and simplest

alot of ppl use .5" or .25" mdf for thier false floors. the way that you want those to mount: get an angle finder, and place it on the carbord piece that you have using as a brace for it right now. What you could do is take an L bracket and bend it to that angle on the top, where the piece of mdf would sit. leave everything else alone on it, and it will sit at that angle. repeat for the next brackets.

have you thought about other ways to mount them? you could do a stair type of effect. IE, mount 1 base at 2" high, and then mount the other 4" high. You could use part of the first base as the mounting spot for one of your legs for the next amp.

    **** that was quick!

The setup with be mounted in the spare tire well. I was worried about moisture build up and thought MDF would not be suitable for that. So I would be safe to use MDF for everything?

Yes I am covering everything in suede/vinyl (this is the wifes car) so whatever she wants

    thanks again!

I was thinking about that but I am using I/S series US Amps and could not figure a way to mount them and still be able to have access to the controls.

These are the other two options I was thinking about, maybe these are a better way?

He could do that, but maybe "L" brackets may cause amps to vibrate more shaking the tiny pieces in the amp, or "L" bracket can get bent, having him to restraighten it out. If that happens often, the "L" bracket could fatigue and eventually break, or cause rack to sag causing him to have to replace them later on. And he would have to buy "L" brackets when an angled piece of wood he could just cut from scrap and won't ever have to replace it. I would try to keep th amp rack as solid as possible.

So maybe the "stair" type setup would be best? How much space is needed between amps (1"?)?

enought for good air flow. I'd give 2" if possible.

Edit: did not see the above post.

The amps I am using are the older US Amp I/S series (they are 2.5" tall)

With the top amp, where do those front legs attach to?
Would it be better to get a 2x4, cut to length and mount the top amp that way?

the top amp would mount wherever you mount the bottom to.
the front legs of the top base mount to the top of the bottom base

Re: Template built need advice on FINAL build!!

if the amps are 2.5" tall, add that to your lengths. so the front legs of the top mount would be 4.5", and the back would be 6.75"

If you were to use a 2x4, then you would have to subtract the heighth of the 2x4 from the length of the mounts
