i know mdf is the way to go, and it is what my boxes are made of now. However, the 5/8 particle board(not chipboard), seems to be what many prefab boxes are made of, and it is MUUUUUCCCHHH cheaper than mdf. As long as it is for a normal application(500w or less), is this ok? Thanks! Please don't flame!

just get the MDF... it's not THAT much more expensive when you consider your time investment making the box... and then remaking it with MDF 6months later

the particle board box is perfect for a sony explodebut besides that I doubt it would hold up let alone sound good with any other woofer thats somewhat powerful.
