Not entirely true, the best shape for a driver is a sphere.

But you can make a box what ever shape you want, to a certain extent. If you have too many complex angles/sections it could cause standing waves to accumulate and cause cancelation, (i.e. loss of output.)

Standing waves for a subbass enclosure are a non-issue unless you have either 1) and ungodly large enclosure, or 2) are playing your subwoofer up to around 300hz.

For subs, shape does NOT matter. The wavelengths we are dealing with in this region are entirely too long for standing waves/shape of the enclosure to matter at all.
