Is it possible to make an external port, that extends outside the box?

What other factors have to be taken into consideration doing this?

I have seen many people run their aeroports extending outside of the box, never a slot port though....

Yes. All that matters is you take into account INTERNAL displacement only of the port when determining tuning...
