Re: First Fiberglass Enclosure worklog *PICS* + questions on door panels

Ok - now for the door panels. This is what the door panels on my car look like (1996 chrysler seabring.) These are not my door panels. Mine are cracked I was thinking about doing something out of fiberglass but am open to suggestions. I found a pic of some door pods that somebody else made and will post that after my door panel pics.

    Then entire door panel:

Here are the ones i found that somebody else made:

Any help and/or feedback is greatly appreciated!

I'd find the same door panels from a junk yard but not cracked up if possible and work on those. Frome the picture, it' looks like he made a fiberglass peice bassed on the peice it replaced.

Re: First Fiberglass Enclosure worklog *PICS* + questions on door panels

The panels in my car are cracked, but i could probably still work off of them. Would it be better to make a baffle in the current door panels and work from there or to trace the outline onto say 1/4" plywood and use that as backing and make a baffle off of that. Is this making sense? IE: make plywood base that will hook into where teh other speaker cover goes and suspend baffle onto that then stretch cloth from baffle to the edges of the plywood and fiberglass that? Also, since im going to be making new speaker pods, should they be sealed or infinite baffle and what kind of speaker would you recomend (6x9 is stock in this car)
    thanks!

Usually you screw it down to the body.

Re: First Fiberglass Enclosure worklog *PICS* + questions on door panels

I've had the sub in the enclosure in the car and it did not tip. I would have had the sub ring closer in, but i did not have enough volume that way so i pulled it apart and put the ring further out. The box will be screwed into the body so it is really a non-issue. Thanks for all the feedback!

I would work over the existing panel so the clips fit back in tight. but you might ruin the panels keep that in mind before you go balls out on your own panels you might end up buying some from a junk yard anyways.

The panels on my car are already cracked and ugly anyway. Would all of the holes allow the fiberglass resin to stick to the plastic? I could always just get clips that match and add them onto the plywood base.

You're right. I just measured with packing peanuts and im off by about 150 in^3. Im going to pull the fleece off tommarow and extend the base with 1/4" plywood fiberglassed onto the shell.
