so i know about how the size, port, sealed subwoofer enclosure makes huge differences in sound. well what makes a kick different in sound? i mean how do you know if a kick is well made for SQ or if it sounds like a**?

Aiming, size/alignment, integrity/strength (no resonances), etc etc.
As with subs; size and alignment will affect how a mid sounds. You don't want to put a mid designed to perform best IB into super-small kickpanel enclosure, or else results will not be pleasant. You want them built strong so that they don't resonant (just like a sub box. Molding clay works well for this). They need to be properly aimed. Etc etc.
Aiming is the most important IMO. Size isn't as critical as sub boxes but bigger is usually better I think.
