Who all has video in their ride? (DVD or TV) Any slander, tickets, etc?

Just curious how many folks out there has video in their ride? I just installed my new DVD/TV headunit and it seems as though I'm getting a lot of "it's dangerous to have video in your vehicle" comments. Just curious if I am a minority or not. Seems like these units would be popular since they are still making/selling them?!

I mean, it's not like I'm driving down the road with my eyes glued to the screen. An occasional glance is all that is required. Most of the time I'm watching something I've already seen (Seinfeld series, etc). I mostly just listen. Now on my lunch hour I watch the news on the TV tuner. Plus with stoplights and drive-thru's it's nice to watch while waiting. Passengers love it.

Just curious how much slander you guys get?! Has anyone ever gotten a ticket for this?

I have had some ppl make comments like that to me but i dont see a problem with them i dont watch them when im driving they may be on but im consentrating on my driving....and nope havent got 1 ticket yet and i have 5 tv's...

but seriously dont have the tv on if your driving especially if its in view of the driver, it is illegal and dangerious. except for the back

i have a 7 inch widescreen flipdown that doubles as my rearview mirror ( have a camera in the back bumper) on different video inputs. I like listening to movies a lot on long rides and then have my rear view mirror on the screen, but once in a while i will glance at a movie while driving but all within reason, plus with my new dvd player- it's a JVC where you have that e-brake wire that wont let video be displayed while driving( wow thats a joke, just ground that wire out and the video plays, lol)



After talking to a local cop, he says as long as i can see behind me it's fine, he said as long as i have side mirrors on driver and passenger sides i'm ok, but i thought a video rear view mirror would be one of a kind.

I have 2 monitors at this point in time. The one in my steering wheel gets the most attention. I hear the "why?" the most about both of them. My answer is simply "because I enjoy it, and I can." A new vehicle is coming my way soon. I am planning at least 5 monitors in it. Its getting addictive.

yea getwild2, as far as the camera i drilled a hole similar to the hole for the trunk lock, then fiberglassed the camera to the rear side of that panel that has the word camaro engraved, very easy to take off, very easy to install, great results

my friend had a indash tv and he got pulled over cause of it...like most of you im sure you ground it to something other than the e-brake so you can watch it while you are driving...well he rigged a switch so that it basically takes the place of the ebrake and i sits between the seat and the center console...so when the cop came up to the car he could flick the switch to turn it to "for your saftey mode" without him seeing him physically turn the tv off...and he got off....dont play prono...thats quick way to get pulled over

That's a good idea, the switch. The problem is getting pulled over at night since the monitor lights up the vehicle like crazy. My other problem is that you can see my monitor AND what I'm watching from behind the truck (if you were behind me at a stoplight). This is because of the position of the opening in the dash for the stereo. So to deny what I was watching, that would be tough. It might help me out in some circumstances though. What would be nice is to mount a very small switch on the reverse-side of the steering wheel, somewhere easily accessible. Might be something to think about...

i have an indash unit... all my friends love it... i usually play music dvd's... live concerts and stuff... and drive with that on... i haven't put in a movie yet... if i have passengers i let the video play... if it's just me... sometimes i let it play... other times i use the navigation and listen 2 the music...

I have and indash DVD headunit (no screen), an Xbox, 2 5.6" in the visors, 2 5.6" in the rear of the sub box and a 13.3 that sits on top of the sub box... Oh, this is in a 2000 Blazer...

I don't watch it at all while I'm driving, its partially for my g/f and kid when we're on trips and mostly for car shows and such...

It would be even cooler if you hooked up a relay to your reverse lights so that it automatically switched to the camera mode when you put the car in reverse gear.

There are switch audio/video switcher boxes that have a feature like that built in. They have a trigger wire and when you put it in reverse one moniter (one thats in front) will autoatically switch to the CAM input then back to video when you shift to drive...
