id suggest actually installing a car alarm before you go off and decide to start a buisness doing it. its not as easy as you may think.

Before you even dream of this, get a minimum of a year or two professionally installing them. You will see many many things you will have no idea about if you jump right in. Ive been installing professionally for quite some time now, and to this day I am still learning. I would suggest doing several before you carry this idea any farther. Not to mention the liability issues you will get yourself into. If everything is not done correctly on newer cars, they can cause you dreadful problems. I would give this a second thought.

Re: Want to start my own business in installing car alarms help!!!!

with an electrical engineering degree i think you would make more doing something else other than installing car alarm. did you have this idea in mind when you got the degree or did it come after because engineers usually dont do any of the electrical installing they are the ones who draw up the diagrams and such. if you went to school to become an engineer so you could install alarms it would seem to me that the schooling was kind of a waste. so whats the story behind this

Re: Want to start my own business in installing car alarms help!!!!

Well I’m currently working at a civil aviation department as an engineer. My duty’s are to make sure all radio communication from the ACT (Airport Control Tower) to airplanes are in working condition. Also we have to maintain all ground equipment such as DME (Distant Measurement Equipment) VOR, (Voice Over Radio), NDE (None Directional Equipment) and Weather Instruments and not to mention all runway lights, and PIPIS.

Reason for starting my own business in car audio and alarm is for a part time job when I’m not busy at work, I had intention was to train someone to install while I’m at work, were I’m from the Caribbean Turks & Caicos Island. There are no business here that do alarm system, therefor people who buy new or use vehicle from the US get their alarm install there before shipping to the islands.

You might want to look into some MECP certification to help you get a little more familiar with alarm systems.
