has anyone taken apart their Passport 8500 or x50? i have one but i hate it being mounted on the windsheild. has anyone taken it apart and mounted the radar sensor and the display seperately? i would like to mount it somewhat discreetly.

I have the bel vector 995 and it doesn't look hard if you have a good soldering iron, your good at soldering and have extra wire or better yet the ribbon type of wire.
I have taken apart my Bel 995. It is impossible to integrate this into anything but the original case. The laser sensor can be moved, the display can be moved and if you are careful, you can move the buttons. You will have to make new covers for them. The main radar unit is large and is attached to the main circuit board. There are chips on the other side of the board. It would be very difficult to heat the solder up enough to melt without burning those chips. The radar sensor is almost the size of the case. The Escort 8500 is very comparable to the 995 as they are made in the same build house. Its not hard to take the case off and look for yourself though.
sounds like i should consider a remote mount radar like the SR7..
