    Re: Valentine radar detectors

The only real advantage to the V1 over it's nearest competitors (Bel Pro RX65 and the Escort/Passport 8500 X50) is a pretty wide advantage in X-band detection.

As most law enforcement agencies no longer use X-band speed detection equipment due to its being severely outdated technology, this coupled with the fact that retail pricing between the three shows a $100 disadvantage for the Valentine makes it no great buy to me...

    Re: Valentine radar detectors

^^^ Agreed. I was researching radars a couple months ago. I determined that te valentine 1 was too expensive and got the impression that there were too many false alarms. I decided to puchase the bel 995 ($280) and used it but then returned it for a Passport 8500 X50. I really like the Passport b/c of the smartcord and automatic setting. Rarely get false alarms that I have notice and the mute button the smart plug is very useful cuz the beeping can be too annoying. The Valentine 1 and Passport dont have voice alert, but the Bel 995 does. Hope that kinda helps.

    Re: Valentine radar detectors

I would go with a Bel 995 or Escort Passport 8500 x50. I would stay away from cordless radars (Escort Solo S2) because there responses are slow from tests that I have read and what if the batteries run out

I have the Escort Passport 8500 x50 w/the blue LED display.
    I love it.
    Works great!
I have it wired into the fuse box with the wires running through the winshield molding so it comes on with the ignition.

    Re: Valentine radar detectors

My friend has one and it works great. This thing can pick up a cop from seriously 1/2 a mile away if you have a straight shot to the cops radar...unfortunatly, some cops like to not turn on their radar until they are right on you, rendering all radar detectors useless...and i have to add that the valentine doesnt pick up the county sherrifs at all, so maybe they have new technology that beats the valentine1, but if you order direct from the maker, you get lifetime updates. To me, 400$ for this radar detector wouldnt be worth it if you didnt get lifetime updates for free.

There are false alarms with this, but you figure out quickly where those spots are. Most false alarms are a lot weaker than the signal you get with a real cop, so most of the time its not hard to differentiate.

The difference between this and other detectors ive rode with is that other detectors seem to give you enough time to slow down if you are speeding, just in time for the cop to not clock you gong over. With the valentine, ill actually have enough time (in many cases up to 10-20 seconds) to find a road to turn on and bypass the cop entirely.

best way to do it, i can stand seeing people having radar detectors with wires hanging down to the cig lighter, atleast on clean interiors and then that big wire hanging down the dash ruins it

Considering my Bel Pro RX65 picks up at 'from seriously' 1.5 miles or better over hills and whatnot and easily 2 miles+ on flat ground I do not find this impressive in the least.

Certainly not good PR for the V1...

The overwhelming majority of reviews on the V1 state that it is still based on detector technology from several years ago (hence the seriously increased K and Ka-band sensitivity on the Bel RX65 and Passport 8500 x50) so a guarantee of "lifetime updates" means very little to me if they've not even caught up with what's current yet.

There are false alarms with this, but you figure out quickly where those spots are. Most false alarms are a lot weaker than the signal you get with a real cop, so most of the time its not hard to differentiate.
This I can agree with. With pretty much any detector as you use it longer and longer you become accustomed to the normal spots where it falses and learn to ignore those alerts altogether.

The Bel Pro RX65, like it's Vector-series brother, the 995, also has voice. For only $20 more, provided you have an older detector to trade in, will get you the Pro RX65 factory-direct with a 3 year warranty which includes free software updates if upgrades become available within your three-year warranty period. This is essentially the same detector as the Passport 8500 x50 (Cincinnati Microwave purchased Beltronics a few years back and the top offerings from both brand have identical internals) for a heckuva price for BNIB, with the smartcord, and a valid 3yr warranty.

my solo gives a long warning before it actually goes dead. according to the manual it does not lose any range even when the battery bar is on "one". from my limited experience with my roomate's V1 and my solo; the V1 is amazing.
