How hard is it to install a viper 791XV

I'm really thinking about doing one these alarms myself, but I have a few questions. How complicated is it? Is it something you can just take your time on and get it done right? Second, when I buy the alarm does it come with a code or something to download your specific vehicle instructions? Also, does anyone know where I can get the 556LW(for chevy colorado) at other than directed?

IMO,, ive installed the 791xv into 2 vehicle,,, ford explorer and jeep wrangler... the 3rd vehicle i have is a monte carlo ss and i decided to take that to the shop to get it installed... took them 1 hour to install it,,, took me atleast 2 full days to do a clean install... so i looked at it that way.

Not to mention that if your alarm is not installed by a DEI approved installer, it will void your warranty

How do you figure out if they are a dei approved installer?

on the website, http://www.directed.com/security/viper/default.asp near the bottom of the pageenter your zip code. This will pull up authorized dealers in your area.

Uh, ask? If they sell dei I would also say its safe to assume they're authorized installers.

I don't mean to steal you thread but i was wondering the same thing.

How much does it normally cost to get installed by an authorized installer?

The place that I had mine installed at, Audio Express, quoted me 200-250 when I spoke with them over the phone. Once I got there they told me that I wouldnt need the additional "piece" that holds the car key (which is chipped) and that I wouldnt need the door relay either. My total was 173 dollars.

It took a shop here 4 hours and $170 to get mine installed, and I love the alarm.

Re: How hard is it to install a viper 791XV

haha i just installed mine yesterday actually(still in the process with the remote start). basically the way i feel about is that you can do it yourself and do just as good of a job as a professional can, but it will take longer..and you dont get the warrenty, but imo its not worth the extra 200 dollars. if you can find the wiring diagrams for your car i say go for it if your interested in that kind of thing. i love car audio and all the car electrical stuff so it interested me and i just saved myself 200 dollars. this is my second alarm install and it still took forever, much easier then my first though

Re: How hard is it to install a viper 791XV

i paid retail, $550 for the alarm with all necessary modules for basic install, plus $150 install fee. this was done last september at Big Apple Music in watertown NY, and it took them nearly all day to do. my decision to have the shop do it was mostly for the warranty and avoiding the headache of the remote start.
