Its a cap and rotor type. What you and others are thinking of is a tad bit older in age, years. This type the rotor sits on a shaft and spins around sending spark to each spark plug through the cap from the coil.




Now saying you think you seen the RPMs just sit at zero while you were cranking it. Says crank signal. Crank position sensor do go bad on the jeeps all the time. And will give you a weak spark while cranking. That sensor sits on top on the bell housing area. Near the steering shaft.

I hear about this a lot on jeeps. I would first look here really.

my best guess is crank sensor, and the whole sparking thing being not often... makes perfect sense, not all plugs spark at the same time..

Want to say fuel pump for my s10 was ~$125 for the part... so thats probably about right for parts and labor. Should have done it yourself....

Well I just found the exact same part for 199.99 at both autozone and advanced auto parts. Those are the only 2 auto parts stores within 40 miles of me.

Holy fuck man. That's insane. I've gotten qoutes from people for 400 bucks for a fuel pump. Then went online to find the motor for 99 bucks. The just swapped motors. That's nuts.

Well I just found the exact same part for 199.99 at both autozone and advanced auto parts. Those are the only 2 auto parts stores within 40 miles of me.

So, the mark up on the part was less than $70.... not too bad actually.

This is just a local business, not a huge corporation. My town is only about 900. I know everyone that works there on a personal level.

they are a business, they sell a part, they mark up the price of said part. Simple as that... Is it "fair", yes. They have to make money to run a business. You're $80 labor charge just paid the guy that put it in. Wheres the money for over head come from if they dont mark up the part?

Thats the world we live in. If ya cant Do-it-Yourself, you're open game for those that can do it. This means you pay what they charge. Thats why I always try to go the DIY route if at all possible.
