    Check engine light...

**** thing came on while I was driving home today. Car seems fine, I haven't noticed any changes in it...I heard Autozone will diagnose this for free, true?

And who the hell thought of putting such a generic warning on a car...they couldn't get just a little bit more specific?

no not at all, and on most cars its the upstream sensor that goes bad and you can usually replace it your self.

I was thinking about buying a reader so I could just read the code myself...Amazon's got one for only $30. Seems like a decent tool to have around...

OBD-II. general rule of thumb is everything before 96 is OBD-I. although some select cars had OBD-II before then.

02 sensors run anywhere from $50-$120 and newer cars have more than one sensor.

I remember seeing the plug on my last car, it was under the dash near the steering column.
