If you take the cat off of any car, it wont pass an emmisions test.

thers nothing i can do to make it pass so I have to get a downpipe with a cat.

i'll tell you what ya do, take the shell of a cat and weld it on the outside of the downpipe so it passes visual inspection
then, lookin into either an o2 simulator or, use a bung thats got a lot of depth for the after cat o2, so that way it reads on the lean side which is what the after cat is supposed to, simulator preferred but taking it out of direct exhaust stream can be the easy way to make it work usually.
good luck buddy, the shell of the convertor works trust me, i've gotten the mirror test before on my old talon, never had a problem.

what im doin is going to get my car smoged next week, then put on my 3" down pipe without cat.... oh yea, 1.8t are pretty slow unless u hella mod them
1.8t's pickup horsepower real quick with the simplest modifications actually...
First on my list would be software upgrade.. GIAC.
Intake and exhaust, then downpipe (with cat).
Yes your check engine light will come on with no cat, however you can always fool the computer with a dummy post-cat o2 putting out a stabalized voltage. Not sure if thats the road you want to go though, especially if that car is your daily driver.

you can invest in a full 3" exhaust downpipe and cat back. GHL is a good brand. or you can look into an ebay DP, they are cheap, and from what i hear works pretty well. i have a full 2.5" milltek exhaust and a 2.5" milltek DP for my 1.8T. invest in a computer chip, they are sweet.

any turbo car is gonna see big gains from little things
man so glad we don't have emission tests anymore!!!

Just completed this one recently in the shop (customer car). A fast car car off the showroom floor, now it's a beast! This ride has just about everthing except internal work and gearing.

ahhh Supercharged vr6 is sweet!
btw...you could always just get a 3 inch pipe with a cat, it will still flow mighty well, along with the catback. or, if you are up for it, get your test pipe, and switch it everytime 2 years when you have to take it in for inspection. that would ****, but you could if you wanted to.

You can also bypass the CEL check with a sparkplug nonfouler. Get one from Autozone and drillt he center of one out with a 1/2 inch bit. The put that in the second O2 bung and screw the O2 into it. No CEL. It is far enough from the gases to not pull the full temp reading. I have one on my Mazda. Had one on my Jetta when I had it. The simulator is Ok but requires wiring know how where the nonfouler is idiot proof.
