window tint: how dark and where to get done

Looking into tinting the windows on my car. I was wondering how dark everyone has their windows tinted before they run into problems with cops. I'm up in manitoba and I looked into the law on it here, and I think I can legally go up to a 50% reflection and 30% tint or something... Not 100% sure on that because i looked a while ago. Anyways, my friend has that and its not very dark at all, so if anyone actually knows the numbers on their tinting, I'd love to hear what you have and if you've run into cop problems because of it yet. I'm certainly looking at going darker than legal limit, just because you can still see the inside of a car with that fine, but I don't want it too dark to draw attention from cops. Also who does a good reasonable priced job?

Well around here, I believe it's a max of 30% for windshield, 20% for rear window/passenger/driver windows and 10% for the wing windows of vans. I have no tint on my drivers/passengers sides or windshield. My other windows are tinted 35% except one, which is tinted .875% . I've seen some cops stop and look at my one insanely dark window, but they just keep going.

I dont know of any good places in Manitoba because ive never lived there !!

5% on back 3 windows is only thing really legal down here, and like a 3" strip on the windshield. side windows can be done just dont do it too dark so its noticable... but i live in a hick town so unless the cop has a problem with u, u have nothing to worry about

here it is as dark as you want on the 3 back windows(as long as you have 2 side mirrors). nothing on the 2 sides. and a 6" strip on the top of the windshield and a 5" strip on the bottom. i've got 2 1/2% on the back 3 and about a 10"strip on the top of the windshield. did it all myself. its not that hard once you do it a couple of times.

I've got 5% on all windows except the front, and I have 35% tint on the whole front windshield. Never gotten in trouble for it.

I just got mine done 35 in the front 5 in the back. I paid $180 with lifetime warranty.


Law here says dark as you want on back three, only top four inches of front windows.

Here in Illinois its illegal to have any tint on drivers and passenger widows.
You can go as dark as you want in the back even though the cops still give you sh-t for it.

I got 5% on back windows. The lowest price around here to get all your windows tinted is like $300. My mom used work for a business that tints windows so I got mine done for free.

.875%?? holy **** man, you might as well just take a black trash bag and cover your window with it.

I dont know what % mines is but its the tint before limo tint on all around and left my windshield stock. Its a little hard to see at night :P but never got pulled over. Paid 160$ for 7 windows..

I had planned on tinting all my back windows that dark, but now I'm glad I didn't. When the sun starts to set or before it comes out completely, trying to look out of that window is like looking into a blackhole (not that I've ever done that). Hey a ? for you guys, do you normally cut the tint into strips and then squigee it on or what?

usually its 1 large sheet/roll.
its put on then cut to size.

Yep, I know that. But if you just cut it to size it's a huge pain in the *** trying to get the air bubbles out...hence, why cutting it in strips might be a good idea.
