maybe i wasnt being specific enough. i know it has a factory turbo. what im asking is if the stock internals will hold up to a bigger turbo upgrade. this would include a bigger turbocharger, a bigger front mount intercooler, more efficient blow off valve and wastegate, better piping, boost controller, turbo timer, and a bigger fuel supply.

I'm sure you can get all the details from a good neon site. Search the web.

personally i wouldent even buy a neon with a turbo at all (no offense)

dodge already has a problem with being known for terrible engine (and everthing else) problems. some are no problems, but ive been in a garage too long to just say there a stable car.

im saying all this on a regular neon, with no turbocharger (additional wear)

NOTE: as with any car, turbo and superchargers create additional stress and wear on an engine, and will decrease relaibility and fuel mileage

Generally only true when ur adding a turbo/supercharger to an engine which didnt originally have one. engines that come wiht stock turbos are tuned right so they dont decrease reliability. srt-4s have been recieving nothing but praise, except for the idiots on forums who say "buT its still a nEon!1!!1".

mopar will be releasing turbo upgrades soon which bolt on and are still covered under the warranty (!). they're releasing lots of other stuff for the srt-4 too. I wish i had one.

    How's this?

    http://www.modernperformance.com/dcx/srt4_index.shtml

In June, Mopar was supposed to have released a stage 1 turbo upgrade kit ... for a mere $300 that boosts horsepower to 240 and torque to 260.

Mopar is also supposed to be offering performance gauges and pods, colored valve covers, short throw shifter (like B&M's), ceramic coated intake manifold, limited slip differential, and a turbo blow off valve I believe ...

    Re: Dodge Neon SRT-4

For those of you that still care or are curious...

The Stage 2 from Mopar is out. There are two versions: a basic WGA, ECU and injector upgrade and the tricked out one with, in their words, "turbo toys." The second one has an small interface panel that replaces a usless cubbyhole in the dash with a pair of rocker switches. It adds a water sprayer for the intercooler with a manual and auto mode. It adds a "high octane" mode for use with 100 octane (good for 285 HP) and an economy mode that limits boost for those long trips where Premium unleaded starts putting a real big dent in the wallet.

I hope to have mine in by mid-summer. With toys, of course

To answer the original question, the internals of the engine were way overbuilt. The Mopar racing team is using the stock crank on a 1200 hp drag beast. The block was bored and sleeved and the conrods and pistons were upgraded for that kind of power. I think I remember seeing somewhere that the stock internals were good for over 500 hp, but I'm not sure.

You're going to have one quick car

I drove one the other day just for fun, not interested in buying one ... but I can honestly say it's a fun car to drive.

    Re: Dodge Neon SRT-4

    they run 14's stock moron.

not fast for a turbo car???? what other 4 banger turbo car for the money is faster??? I'd need proof to believe than an Mx-6 can beat one...cause Mx-6's are **** slow.

seeing as how mx6's run 15.8 stock...with boltons that may get you into 15 flat or so....and the SRT-4 runs 14 flat......hell a 95 DOHC runs 16.2....which makes the MX6 look bad.

Also, I still don't understand why people judge this car on reliability of the neon, (although the 2 i have owned have been rock solid)

It shares nothing in common with the Neon except the body and some of the interior....
