    Competition Tomorrow

    ok.... so i just found out there is a local competition. how it slipped past me i have NOOOO idea. but anyway, it's just a local competition (athens ohio) but we will be using the new term lab meters. yea, the really hard ones.

    here's the dilema. i have to build a box, to compete with by tomorrow morning. so i hope i get some reply's pretty quick.

    equipment...... 1 memphis hpo 15'' subwoofer, 1 cadence z9000 (800 rms). this will be firing upward in a 3 cu ft box (plus port volume). i only need help with tuning. i can design the box myself, but i was just curious if anybody has ever competed in a ford probe before. if you have, what did you tune your boxs at??? i'm pretty sure my box will have to peak at 60 - 65 hz somewhere, but not sure exactly. so that means i have no idea what to tune my box at. i was thinking 55 hz, and hoping it was close enough. i'm purely speculating at this point, and was wondering if anybody had ANY information to pass along about this peticular car or anything that would help me put up some numbers tomorrow. thanks alot.

    Re: Competition Tomorrow

    can you build a larger box? ~4-5 cuft? That would help you out some. Give it a good amount of port area too. You should tune 1/8 octave below your cars resonant frequency (whatever that means, anyone care to explain)

    Re: Competition Tomorrow

    usually purely competition boxs dont need incredible amounts of power. that and the subwoofer i'm using was recommended a 2 cu ft box. so 3 - 3 1/2 cuft should be plenty. the box i have now is 5 cuft. but that's just to much. anybody else have any idea's???

    Actually they do if you are metering legal. Just the nature of the beast. If you do outlaw you won't need as much. That box size sounds good too. The tuning sounds a bit high to me...

    1 volt = [1(kg)(meter^2)] / [(second^3)(ampere)]

    1 watt = 1 joule / second
    1 watt = (1 Newton)(meter) / second
    1 watt = [1 kg/(second^2)] (meter) / second

    simplifying we find:

    1 watt = [1(kg)(meter)] / (second ^3)

    therefore:

    P = (I)(V)

    1 watt = (1 volt)(1ampere)
    1 watt = ( [1(kg)(meter^2)] / [(second^3)(ampere)] )(1 ampere)
    1 watt = [1(kg)(meter^2)] / (second^3)

    And that is WHY Power is in the SI units of Watts. enjoy!

    x2

    tune around 40-42hz, should give you a nice peak in the mid-high 40 range. you won't run the risk of it falling on it's azz if the freq is wrong for your car. almost all vehicles i have played with will give a nice peak around 45-48hz, even if it's not optimal.

    Re: Competition Tomorrow

    TooLowToGo - you have a PM.

    Termlab - outlaw is anywhere forward of the b pillar that's not on the dash. It usually allows the windows to be down or a door open or being fanned....

    Leagal on the other hand is on the dash only and the vehicle is sealed up.

    1 volt = [1(kg)(meter^2)] / [(second^3)(ampere)]

    1 watt = 1 joule / second
    1 watt = (1 Newton)(meter) / second
    1 watt = [1 kg/(second^2)] (meter) / second

    simplifying we find:

    1 watt = [1(kg)(meter)] / (second ^3)

    therefore:

    P = (I)(V)

    1 watt = (1 volt)(1ampere)
    1 watt = ( [1(kg)(meter^2)] / [(second^3)(ampere)] )(1 ampere)
    1 watt = [1(kg)(meter^2)] / (second^3)

    And that is WHY Power is in the SI units of Watts. enjoy!
