    The New World Record

    Some may know this. But it came in my email from CarSound and Performance today.

    Pioneer Subwoofers Establish 2004 SPL World Records
    Thursday, July 15, 2004 by Ari Rubin

    Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc and Scott Owens, dB Drag world record holder and competitor, continue to make history at dB Drag and USACi sound pressure level competitions, the company reports. Owens, who competes with nine Pioneer Premier TS-W5000SPL 12-inch subwoofers in his 2002 Ford F-250 SPL truck, established two new 2004 SPL world records, an 173.0 dB for dB Drag and 174.0 dB for USACi events held this past weekend, July 10 and 11, in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.

    "This a great start for the year. The technical support I’ve received from Pioneer helps me prepare for this season," said Owens. "However, the main goal is dB Drag Finals because that’s when I will be defending the title and, hopefully, will set another world record with the TS-W5000SPL."

    In 2003, Owens posted a sound pressure level world record of 172.2 dB at the dB Drag World Finals for the Extreme 9+ category. With the two wins from this past weekend, Owens is currently the number one SPL competitor in the world and one of five to break the 170 dB marker.

    "We know this season will be even tougher than last year because everyone’s striving for higher numbers," said Keith Burnett, vice president of product planning for mobile entertainment at Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "Scott’s dedication and skills make him the ideal Pioneer competitor and we’re committed to making sure he has the support to continue winning."

    Owens F-250 SPL vehicle holds nine Pioneer Premier TS-W5000SPL subwoofers and can produce sound pressure levels above 170 dB. The truck uses 36 amplifiers, 72 16-volt Turbo Start batteries and three Ohio Generator 285-amp alternators and produces more than 115,200 watts of power.

    Owens competes in both dB Drag and USACi events. Upcoming events include;
    July 24 - Summit Racing, dB Drag, Cleveland, OH
    July 31-August 1, NOPI, dB Drag, Mohnton, PA
