I have the same iron, use it daily on tiny gauge wires. Only need to heat the wire for a few seconds.

I just didn't have much luck this time, I'm sure it's doable but I was in a irritated mood as it was so I just moved on.

Debating on glassing up some custom kicks, I would have more control over imaging. I priced a door panel incase I screwed one up, $630, kick panels are only $33 each so I would rather take my chances with those.

Another update, Jim has a Singer 220 amp alternator on the way for me to.

    Re: 2014 Subaru WRX build

Started on my passenger side door but as soon as I started applying the deadener it decided to start raining. So I decided to update while I cross my fingers and hope the weather clears up enough to finish deadening the door. I got the spacer done, here are some pics of the progress.

Here is what it looked like after pulling the door panel, as factory as can be.

    Here is the factory spacer...

The CDT does not come close to fitting in the factory spacer.

I traced the factory spacer but added some fat where I felt it was needed. I knew I was going to use T-nuts from the beginning and didn't feel comfortable putting them in with so little wood to support them.

Test fit looks fine to me

I wasn't sure how I was going to mount the speaker to the door because it had threaded plastic clips in a square hole. So I decided to grin the excess off and reinstall them backwards so the steel was sandwiched the between the spacer and plastic. The clip on the right is factory, the left is after I trimmed it.

I hot glued a washer and nut on the back of the clip to give extra security.

    More on the way.

    Re: 2014 Subaru WRX build

Might be hard to see but the top and right plastic clips are factory, the bottom left is that it looks like after installing the modified one.

After installing the T-nuts in the spacer I found that these were the only bolts I had.

It's ok, I have the solution...

I installed deadener on the speaker mounting surface, the door will have deadener as well. Should I install deader on both sides of the spacer and the door?
