i use resin. deadener works too. even aluminum foil tape or a sheet of CCF.

Aluminum won't rust, but with what we coated it in, not sure that was ever a concern. we're adding enough weight to the doors with deadener, saving some on the panels helps save the hinges.
I've got just enough 3/4" MDF left to make two baffles, perfect!

I'll use the leftover aluminum tape to seal them. I'll spring for the aluminum sheeting now since I'm holding off on the deadening. That way I won't have to deal with protecting it from the elements. Like you said, it's lighter - less wear on the hinges. Is there any particular gauge I should look for, or just whatever the local home improvement store carries?

What kind of resin are you talking about? I'm intrigued.

    Thanks again

    My Setup:
    • Head Unit: Kenwood KDC-BT555U
    • Speakers: 4 Kenwood KFC-P709PS components on a Rockford Fosgate Punch P400.4, ~70W RMS @ 4Ω to each
    • Subwoofers: 2 Rockford Fosgate Punch HE2 12"s in a custom 2.5ft³ sealed enclosure on a JBL BPX500.1, ~750W RMS @ 4Ω to the pair

Ur builds are awesome. I have a few questions if u dont mind. As far as insulating the inside of the doors with the fiberglass wrapped in painter's plastic, how much coverage is good ? Bottom half or full coverage?

What is a cheaper ccf I can purchase at home depot? Or something else I can use on top of roadkill.

So to get this straight. Am I good with this..... insulated inside of the doors with fiberglass. 2 weather strip around speakers. 3 egg crate foam behind speakers
4 roadkill dampening on doors. 5 seal holes with aluminum. 6 closed cell foam over that. Would that be sufficient?

Yep. Same process. Aluminum tape holds very well and stays on metal better than anything else I've used.

have you been helped by me? i'd love to know. shoot me a PM.

Thicker is better for the aluminum sheets, thick enough to be study.

Resin as in the stuff used with fiberglass. Even the Bondo brand resin available locally at Walmart or autoparts stores will work. Simply mix with the necessary hardener and apply to the rings with a disposable brush. in my build log you can see several examples of resin coated MDF.

no egg crate foam anywhere inside a door. it's not useful and just holds moisture. the bags of fiberglass absorb sound. as much as possible is desired - I cover the entire door skin. depth is based on available depth to clear the windows.

Roadkill goes on first, before anything else. Add some pieces of RoadKill on the aluminum sheet as well.

There are some floor underlayments you can get that can take the place of CCF but Ensolite from Raamaudio is pretty cheap.
