It's mainly a different look, keeps it more out of the way, and the layout seems more 'directional/flowing' in my mind...placed in the rear-driver's side of a trunk it should load nicely and play well.

also, it is more than about looks. The design idea is to increase response gain in a specific passband by allowing a virtually longer length of travel. This in turn allows for lower extension with proper loading also.
Box looks wonderful, by the way you did an amazing job on the build portion.

Can you show me how to handle wood like that? Seriously though, looks like excellent craftsmanship.
