    Budget Build Id & RE

Im pretty new here so if you see something I did wrong or thats not best practice, my bad. Any feedback helping me out is appreciated- I have learned just about everything I know on this site for this cheap build of mine... Its my first. the scope of this build was to have a decent sounding system that fit my budget, so heres what I did:

The car is a 92' Accord Ex. Ya I know I like old jdm style hondas just like everyone else....just not a civic kinda guy:

So the first step was buying a bunch of car audio equipment, this is not all of it but most of the major components:

Then I got to work. First thing was sound deadening. I made the mistake of using fatmat. next time Im going with second skin. In fatmats defense, the rattletrapp 80 mil stuff seems to do the job as my car dosent resonate or rattle. I also used some mlv noise barrier. It was a 1/2 lb per sq ft.

I removed my sunroof and used some fatmat on its panels and covered it with mlv where I could:

This was alot of fun to get out of the car........

Re: Budget Build Id & RE

After I addressed the roof and sunroof I focused on the floor and rear deck i also ran all of the knu cl3 14ga for the comps, stinger helix rca's and the 0ga power run while I was at it... oh ya, the remote line too:

After I finished with the fatmat, I went on to the mlv. I learned that it was important to cover everything 100% with this and leave as few cuts as possible. so thats what i did:

I also have mlv over the rear wheel wells too... no pics though same thing with the fatmat in the doors.

Re: Budget Build Id & RE

I went on to install the Image dynamic ctx65cs's next. Running the wire into the doors proved to be a pain in the ***. I didn't want to do it ghetto so I had to remove my fenders to get a clean run with grommets. The knu cl3 14 ga speaker wire is kinda thick with the amount of insulation on it-it is what it is.

I also did a Big 3 with 0ga as well as replace the main ground and even the starter wire-not that that helps anything, but it looks better with all matching wire. In the near future, I will upgrade this battery to something like a yellow top or hc 1400 o5 1800.:

I next took myself to school on box building. I had some input from members here and then had a member design me a simple box for my RE se/x 12d2. I wound up going with 2.2^3@ 33 using a 4" aeroport. The reason for the slightly bigger than spec size box was due to my current choice of budget amp, an MB Quart 4125. I only have 500w rms to feed it. Heres my handy work:

Then I just painted it. My trunk is not finished yet, its naked right now with a towel under the box and some mlv. I have to build a new floor and install new carpet.:

The amp is also the same way. no carpet right now. I have to get it back in there!

Re: Budget Build Id & RE

After it was all said and done I was really lacking midbass like crazy. I snooped around on here read a few threads, and figured it out. I just had to seal up my door panels. I also added egg crate foam and polyfill in the doors- all of this really made a BIG difference. After I got my gains set right, and eq'ed everything, I think this getup sounds pretty good. Not gonna win any SQL or SPL contests with it but for daily clean sounding tunes on a budget its doing its thing. Like I said before, this is my first build and I still need a few things........like a good battery and perhaps a audio control four 1. I'll figure it out. Future plans will be something like a 180 amp alt, ssa xcon 12, and better Id comps with an good mono amp for the sub. But for now I think i went down the right road more or less for what I had to work with. what you guys think.....?

It may seem intimidating to rip everything out of the car like that but its all in knowing how its held together. CB7tuner.com is my main source of info for my car. I can learn how to do just about anything I want to do without trial and error attempts making the process run alot more smoothly I ripped the whole interior out and cleaned all the panels of my accord in less than a few hours after reading about it for 15 minutes. Including the sunroof. It took about the same amount of time to cut, trim and install the fatmat and shampoo the carpet. I could prob do it more quickly now that I have a little experience messing with it. Im planing on doing a similar build in my Mazda protege 5, or wait to upgrade my accords getup and transplant the leftovers to the mazda. Who knows. either way, I'll rip the guts out of the mazda too- its cabin is a little more noisy then the stock accord was. I will say its worth it though. My accord is pretty hush inside now and any buzzing or rattles from the sub are basically nonresistant- the sub sounds REALLY clean. Thanks for the comment man!

Thanks. I haven't built anything out of wood since 7th grade shop but it came out pretty flush. I did have to barrow just about every tool to make it though....lol In the future one day I might go with a dual 12" sub stage or a single 15" and run twin aeroports up through the oem 6x9 locations and maintain the stock grills. Im not sure if it would sound right or not, just a thought though.

Thanks man. I found it on ebay for 169.99 shipped or best offer. I offered 150.00 and got it. I never lowballed an ebay power seller like that before-Still cant believe they let it go for 20 bucks less....lol Its not the best sub in the world, but I will say it delivers. Dave Mathews bass dumb kicks are tight, and jezzy hypnotizes my garage door. It sounds really clean. Had to set my gain and bass boost all the way down on the amp and I adjust the sub using the non fading output adjustment on my deck. Im not a tuning guru, but it dose get a little loud and sounds clean this way.
