why the VC of my sub starts to get smelly when I play below tuning, but it is fine when I play above.
I understand that a voice coil will get smelly from the glue heating up on the VC former...caused by sending a speaker too much power. But the speaker should not get getting any difference in power, just from different frequencies...
I understand impedance rise, but is it really likely that I'm rising to acceptable levels of power for my sub when I'm above tuning, and when I'm below tuning the speaker is getting more power?
Edit: Oh, and the dustcap and cone on the sub NEVER get warm, unless abused for long periods of time.
