Re: Sundown Audio Nightshade 18'' -- AQ2200 >> Truck Build

Before I cut my port to length, Ive got some questions...

I dont know how this calculator does it http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxcalcs.asp but instead of making the sides and top flush height with the back peice, I layed it on top. So that adds .75 to some of my dimensions. Do I re-do it in the calculator the way it is now? The top and side peices will be laying on top of the other peices, not inside it. How do I do this math?

After the all displacements other than port (which I dont know what it will be) I have 5.38 cubic ft. How long does my port need to be @ 32hz? Port is 8'' diameter. I need some sticking out and cant figure out how much needs to be in

Re: Sundown Audio Nightshade 18'' -- AQ2200 >> Truck Build

Went with 12.75'' of port inside the box and 7.85'' outside. I had 5.38^3 with displacements other than port. Total of 20.6''. Going to finish it up tonight, gotta put side peices on, seal it, and I'm thinking about spray painting it white/black.'

This is my first ever box build and I admire some of the peoples skill on here

I just dont get the outside/inside length. I can cut the port or add on to it, ive still have quite a bit of tube left.

Pretty hard to reach all the way in there and try to put sealent in...
Sanding and taking the rattle can to it tomorrow. Im thinking about doing the front white and alternation white/black for the sides, top, and back.

Re: Sundown Audio Nightshade 18'' -- AQ2200 >> Truck Build

not bad for you first box. i have a couple of tips for you.Get yourself a nice strait edge and some nice screw type clamps. first measure from the side of the blade of the saw to the edge of the table on the saw. one side should be around 1.5" and the other should be 3.25" anyways clamp the strait edge down so you can run the table of the saw along it for a nice strait cut. if your right handed take back that saw and trade it for the one with the blade on the left side of the saw it will help a ton.(if your right handed) and last would be dont put screws right in the corners I always stay around 2" in from the corners.it will keep it from splitting the mdf

Pre-drilling with even the skinniest of bits will keep you from splitting the MDF while using normal coarse thread sheet rock screws. Nice job though, I imagine it'll be pretty loud.

for your first box it looks decent and if it holds together with that monster in it i'd say you've done a fine job.

Yea not bad for 1st box. +1 on the predrilling it works wonders. And as for not perfect cuts if there is a bit of over hang on one panel. Get a router with a flush bit it makes the world of difference way faster than sanding. But yea looks good
