    Two Memphis M3 12's/MCD1.1100-first ported box! 5 cubes @ 36Hz

this is going in my grand marquis, you may remember from the "wannabe cop car" thread

anyway, i know this is far from the most impressive setups out there, but it's my first so i'm looking for some pointers here.

i used bassbox pro 6 and came up with this. the red is the new box, the green is an approximation of my current sealed box

everything ready to go( 1-1/4 sheets of mdf)

    the box to be replaced

I am building this box to fit on that shelf in the trunk below the rear deck

and i am building it so the port will come right through the hole behind the armrest(some body work required)

stupid circular saw f***ed up the first cut

    getting started

    port all together (7x8x25.4 inches)

this is pretty close to where the port will sit. it's gonna be right against the seat back

so i was wondering where the best position for the subs would be(one on each side of the port) i mean how far forward or back...does it matter much?

more of the box construction and body work in the trunk

here's the inside of the box from the font/port side

got the port in, pretty happy with the snug fit there, had to put my weight into it to slide it in

rotozip with a metal cutoff wheel. FAR superior to a dremel tool, a tad quieter than my pneumatic one, and not quite the overkill a torch would be

got that metal out of the way..

    one spare tire bracket down...

    and then there were none.

completed the box...found some issues. i made the port the size necessary to match the hole for the armrest and it consequently ended up being a lot longer than originally planned. so without re-measuring my trunk to see how it would fit i played around with dimensions in BBP6 and it ended up a little longer than i would have liked

the biggest problem: subs are gonna be all over those trunk lid springs. unfortunately gonna have to take those guys out and get real crafty mounting a pair of pistons to open the trunk instead. to make matters worse my MIG welder is on the fritz and i might have to use the trusty old lincoln stick welder

second issue: the port is a lot higher than the armrest hole. might have to re-do the port and use the outside wall of the box as the bottom port wall

and the thing i cant really fix without starting over...the box hangs wayyyyy out into the trunk, kind of defeats the purpose of that shallow box up on the shelf...but at least its more trunk space and bass than before!

Maybe try 4 cubes with a 6'' Aero? The box will be a good bit smaller and you would be able to get the Aero right up through the armrest.

But this box might do the trick, dont get me wrong. Get some vids up when you get it goin.

true i could have...i didn't plan it that way it just worked out that the armrest hole plus 2 layers of mdf happened to be the internal height of my box. its a shame i have to re-do that port and take the bottom off to get it lower

hopefully i'll get some work done on the project this weekend with the trunk lid springs and i'll be ordering second skin in the next couple days

    some more progress...

    rear deck before

    rear deck after

    stupid trunk springs gone

    new springs in

some damp for the trunk lid

    new port going in

port in(i didnt feel like running that wire in the box around the port)

the trunk damped up and sealed with some foil tape to keep moisture out

    one threaded rod..

    two threaded rod..

i bet you can figure out which one of those was the first attempt haha

    Re: Two Memphis M3 12's/MCD1.1100-first ported box! 5 cubes @ 36Hz

stupid fammable foam **** caught on fire and melted my amp remote cord

    amp rack in progress

my port has a pretty logo lol

also removed some badging from the car...that had holes behind it. not bad for the first phase of painting, just gotta get rid of that pesky tape line

    amp rack from the top

and the front, keepin my baby nice and cool, plenty of room to breathe

now all i have to sort out is the HORRENDOUS turn-on/turn-off pop and thumps i get from the speakers AND the subs. does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to get rid of those? i've been wondering if the problem is my turn-on signal, the grounds for the amps being about a foot apart, melted RCAs (fixing now), shotty repair job on the amp remote cord, running the RCAs and turn-on wire and remote wire all together, having all those wires run across the bottom of the box where it overhangs, their close contact with the power wires where they meet at the amps, or something else. any help would be greatly appreciated

Pioneer headunit? If so, you popped the PICO fuse and you will have to ground the rcas to fix it.
