    small box, big subs.

Seeing as how this is my first post I should probably talk about myself a bit.

I'm 22, drive a 2000 honda accord coupe, 5 spd, I'm a carpenter. I enjoy playing online games along with first person shooters and racing games.

I've been an audio nut since the age of 16 when I was introduced into the automotive world. Started off tearing apart old mini stereo system and scavenging for thrown out towers with blown speakers, rummaging through junkyards at night for aftermarket speakers.

My fascination became a reality when I purchased my first piece of audio equipment. Two Rockford RF2212s, the old HX2s. After running off my old mans receiver for a year, I went out a bought a 1001bd. As time went on I upgraded my system. Two 1001bds, two RF2212s, a P2002, a rockford cap, rockford wiring, coaxials, etc etc (yes I had a fascination with rockford). A custom molded fiberglass box for my first car, a 1990 Celica GT-S. The box was roughly 8 cubes ported.

It's been about 3 years since then and I'm upgrading my system to hopefully compete in what's left of the season.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here's what I'm building. System specs are:
Two cascade omega 15s Dual 1s
    Soundstream XXX-6500
180amp alt by a local SPL shop
    Odyssey PC2150 and PC1500
    Stinger 500amp battery isolator
    JVC KD-AVX2
    Audiocontrol line driver
and a ton of 0 gauge wire.

Here is a shot of most of the goodies.

Here are some pics of the omegas.
    The HX2s VS the omega

Here is a custom battery mount I'm building to fit into the trunk.
Step 1, forming the bottom with glass.
    Step 2, building the walls.
    Step 3, connecting the joints.
    Step 4, gluing it together.
    The final look.

Some of the images turned out kinda small, I'm still trying to get used to this place.

    Re: small box, big subs.

Here are some more pictures of progress from the past few weeks. It wouldn't let me fit all these into the first post.

And here is the work I already started on the box.
    Step 1, the taping.
    Step 2, the layout.
    Step 3, the glassing.

Finally cured and only 1/8" thick.
    Several layers later.

    Re: small box, big subs.

Looks like aluminum duct tape, the REAL duct tape, not that gray crap that leaves residue on everything That stuff is expensive as hell per roll.

Edit: maybe it's only alum. tape holding the sheets of foil together, because it looks like solid sheets, I don't see many seams.

Hahaha, it's just regular alum foil for cooking/baking, the tape, well I used duct tape, the thick grey stuff.

    Re: small box, big subs.

    just a quick note
you said you wanted to compete in whats left of the season well thats cool an all but i don't know too many guys that are loud with fiberglass boxes. not saying that there isn't any but i don't know many. i compete in usaci an the only guy got away with that is kenny an his was a carbon fiberbox an still he took it out cause it didnt put him where he wanted to be.
what i would recommend is get with another guy on here that has the same car an has 15's in it, cause there is another guy i just can't remeber his name for shits right now, an ask him he is don't some wicked *** numbers with some 15's an so is thorshammer he i doing some ******* numbers with a pair of 10's.
now if your running sq thats cool then fiberglass away bro an forget all the **** i just said. you have a nice day now.

    Re: small box, big subs.

BEST **** TO USE GUYS FOR FIBERGLASSING IS CALLED FROSTKING FOAM WITH ALUMI TOPPING

IT WILL STICK TO METEL OR PLASTIC WELL

IT PEELS OFF WHEN DONE AND CASUE ITS 1/8IN TICK OR SO WHEN YOUR DONE AND YA REMOVE IT THE THICKNESS OF MOST sound deaders will fill the void it had so you get snugg fittring

use this with some wax on top and no tapes needed at all

home depot and lowes has it its grey foam wiht thick foil on top its about $16-$22 a roll but its awsome for fiberglass trunk work IMO

btw nice work but build that up to 1/2in to 3/8in thickness and love the wood work with the joints

    Re: small box, big subs.

Nice bio, maybe someone will PM u for a date

Besides that... Looks like u have pretty good quality work and a good choice in equipment. Can't wait to see how this turns out. Also i'm with the other member that mentioned the competing w/ fiberglass post, its a difficult thing and very few people have done it even semi-successfully. If u wanna compete i'd play around with a few different box designs and find what works best in ur setup.
