Just sayin cause it would be a ***** to have to tear it all up again to move the wires if there is noise.

you should try to move that to be on the safe side while the truck is still taken apart, rather than have to do it again later.
if its grounded properly it wont be an issue

whelp, got all the wiring done and all of the speakers in an wired. Now i have to get the double-din to fit in the dash, build my amp racks, finish the box, and everything will be good to go. Oh, and put in the alternator.

Oh, and i did move the wires around just for safe measure, although everything will be battery-to-battery connection.

nonhardening clay to seal up the speakers:

    clay cleaned up

How the speakers look in the doors. They are practically impossible to see without the camera flash, which is just the way i wanted them

and the coaxials in the back

I'm not sure if i want to show or hide the crossovers yet, so they are just kind of sitting on the floor under the dash at the moment

Heres the wiring all cleaned up in the truck. The only wires i have to run now are the antenna and microphone for the HU

And this is what the bed of my truck looks like now

The avalanche has definitely proven itself to be a fun car audio enthusiast truck.

honestly I think they look hideous with all the plastic (trucks should be made of metal)

this avalance is changing my mind on it though

I'd probably hide the crossovers because of rain or possible snow (if you live in the north)

i dont really like the look of the plastic either, but it does great in the winters.

and after this stereo, the next project is to smooth the plastic out and paint everything a silver-flaked burgundy

    Re: ~Project Stealth Avalanche~ 4 15's, 4krms, dash mod, *pics*

Progress is still coming along, and going much smoother than i expected.

I began modding the dash today, which i was somewhat worried about, but so far its going great. It took me forever to cut through the brace in the dash (to make enough depth for the HU), but once that was done, everythings been piecing together nicely.

i dremel'd off the top part of the dash brace to make room for the depth of the HU, then i snapped off the clip-tabs on the climate control unit so i would be able to bolt the unit anywhere in the dash. After snapping off (yeah its ugly, but its all hidden anyways) the lower part of the dash cage underneath the climate control unit, i dropped the unit down about 1/2" and bolted it back up. Now there is plenty of room for othe double DIN, and it'll hopefully be in tonight. I still need to figure out how to completely wire the unit. I've never needed to use a speed sensor control wire, parking brake wire, reverse wire, nor TWO remote wires? I'll have to do some reading before everything is totally finalized.

    onto the pictures:

    cut brace:

taped up for safety from wires:

How the climate control unit fit without any movement/modifications:

Ripping the underside of the dash cage out so the climate control unit could be moved down:

    All mounted up:

lines up just about perfectly now. I still have to sand down some edges of the new dash bezel. There is a slight overlap on part of the climate controls, which is just minor and will be an easy fix. I also have to take about a half-inch off the bottom of the bezel above the cigarette lighter/outlets, otherwise the outlet door wont flap all the way open:

The double din should fit nicely now. I think im going to make a cage around it out of 1/2" plywood for some extra support, and then bolt the ply straight into the dash:
