    Need advice on situation

So I bought a battery from a member on here a long time ago (Nov. 09) and when it arrived it was not packaged very well and the corner was a bit dinged up. I wanted to file a claim but the seller convinced me it would be fine if I just sealed it up with a little Goop, so I did. I installed the batt under my giant enclosure and I literally have to take my car apart to see it so today is the first time I've seen it since I put it in and there's a nice big collection of what I can only guess is battery acid corrosion under the battery. It's just white and powdery like corrosion looks like.

My question is though, do I have any right to expect the seller to do anything or am I boned since it's been like a year and a half?

The batt is resting at 12.7V right now and I haven't really seen any performance decrease but obviously the battery isn't sealed anymore and probably shouldn't be in my car...

The batt says "12V 505 watts per cell" meaning each cell is 12V so I guess it's possible only one of the cells is leaking (and therefor dead) but the rest are still good?

Well that's obvious now but this batt weighs close to 100 pounds and isn't exactly cheap to ship, at the time I thought it would be fine...

Yes, I AGREE, I already said that....That's not my question, I'm asking whether or not I should expect the seller to do anything about it at this point but I'm thinking I already know the answer...

No... you should not expect ANYTHING from the seller after over a year! You shouldn't expect anything from the seller after a few weeks IMO. It is your job to evaluate the item when you receive it and determine whether or not it is to you liking and handle any issues right then. i feel like even asking this question is absurd!

I would say he should have filed a claim but if it was poorly packaged, they wouldn't have done anything. HOWEVER, it would have gotten back to him with no shipping charges and you could have at least gotten a full refund.

Yeah, original seller isnt responsible for anything. You accepted the battery in its condition and put it to work.

Think it's still usable? I know some batteries have the cells in series but if this one has 12V cells they'd have to be in parallel so it should still function with one being dead right? I guess I'm more worried about the fact that now that it's not sealed it could be leaking some shat into the cabin of my car...

    Re: Need advice on situation

If it had a dead cell, you would know! Voltage would either be crazy high or crazy low. I have seen them rest at like 13.8v and at like 10.2v both had a bad cell.

Either way, if you are sitting at 12.7V, you are probably fine. I would just try to seal it up. Set the battery up side down (assuming it cracked a the bottom) wipe it down with some Baking Soda/water on a rag to neutralize any acid on the case. Then get something god to seal it up, Plastic Weld is pretty good stuff, that might work. I have used a soldering iron and plastic more than once with good results, just like brazing but with plastic...

It has to lay on it's side and the crack is on one of the top corners. The way it was laying before the crack was on the bottom but I rotated it so the crack is now facing up. I don't see/feel any acid on it, that's the weird part, it feels like the GOOP sealed it well but obviously it's leaking somehow. I've never heard of Plastic Weld but I'll see if I can find it at the hardware store.

Well the hardware store didn't have that plastic weld but they did have a Do-It-Best brand plastic epoxy that says it's strength is like 3500psi once hardened. I know it will bond to the plastic just fine but what I'm worried about is it's resistance to the acid...not exactly spelled out as "acid-proof" on the package, it says it's solvent proof though :P
