The Re's are a good lil' mid. I used them active for a little while then just kept the tweeter when i ordered my 2 pairs of XXX mids. I have to say that the XXX dwarfs any midbass I've ever seen in my life. Here is a pic compared to a Vifa PL which is a stout mid in itself.

It looks to me like it just has a bigger magnet structure than the others. That doesn't necessarily make it a better driver. In fact, I would take the Vifa over the XXX simply because it would be easier to install. I couldn't think where I would put a mid bass that size. But anyway, how does the xxx sound compared to the vifa?

Also, isn't the MOMO line Polk's highest line of drivers and comps.??? :) :)

In terms of sheer output for midbass name anything up to almost any 8" around and I'd take a XXX over it. The best part to it IMO is that it has a smoother top end response up to 3.5khz than the PL did. The PL's were my babies as I've had them for over a year and a half but the XXX's put them to shame in any application. This is also just doing an IB comparison from one to the next, when i finish up the .23cuft sealed kick pods there's no way anything I've ever used could compare. The thing everyone has with "i can't find room to mount them", that basically to me means you don't want to try doing a whole lot of custom work. To me, no 6.5-7" can put out good midbass other than the Extremis, and XXX as I've used and own both.

Well thats cool, I've never heard them and was curious myself. I've seen lots of speakers in my days with huge magnets and they were out performed by other spearkers that were smaller which is why I made that comment.

Actually, I have done a bit of custom work. I built my own kicks, I flush mounted my changer to my rear deck. But I run a 3 way component system up front and I use a 6.5s, 4s, and tweets so my midbass went in the door and that big honkin XXX would have WAY too much depth to fit there and my 4 and tweet had to go in the kick since they're more audible than the midbass. ;)

I have 6.5" MTX Black Gold midbass drivers and I have a PRS-X720 pushing 244 watts per channel to them and believe me, I have MORE than enough midbass. So before you dismiss smaller drivers you should know that the few you have used are a drop in the bucket compared to what is out there.

Just my .02 of course.

Used the black gold 6.5"s, 8"s, 10"s, and 12"s good speakers but mine blew after 160 watts on the 6.5"s. I'm talking about comparing mine in the midbass area to the likes of jl mids, ID mids, vifa pl's, rev's, excels, koda 6.5"s, focal k2p's, utopias and the new utopia Be mids I'd still take a XXX midbass duty hands down. Given you run 3-way as I do, all you need is a solid mid and the XXX's murder about anything in that range. So again don't assume I have a lot less real world experience than I do.

I know it came off like it but I didn't mean to insinuate that you didn't have much real world experience. For that I apologize. All I'm trying to say is that there are a lot of drivers in the world and different drivers react differently in different circumstances. Which I something I'm sure you know.

By the way, what amp did you have going to your BG 6.5s to blow them?? As I said earlier I'm running over 240 rms to mine and they've been running good for me for over a year and a half.

;)
