putting new system together need some advice speakers/components

HI all
just reading around these forums i have gained a new insight on audio really great stuff floating around here
im new to these forums but not new to car audio and this time when building my system i decided to go a different route and install most of it myself like the good ole days ;) got lazy over the past few years having shops do my installs but never seemed to be totally happy with what i got . Not installers fault im just a bit picky hehe plus i wanna get my hands dirty but im having a little trouble picking speakers .
the vehicle is a minivan with 5x7/6x8 (says crutchfield) does this mean that either 5x7 or 6x8 wil drop in that slot aslong as the mounting depth is the same as the speakers listed on crutchfield (2 7/16th inch) ? I ask because on cardomain it says i need an adapter for some of the speakers crutchfield says fit fine .
also i noticed that on crutchfield it says 5.25" will fit with adapter but i really really want 6.5 is this possible? im not against doing a little cutting or metal trimming if needed but would like to avoid if possible.
i need two pairs of coaxials or components as the ones in the minivan **** totally or i would use the stock rears for fill but feel they wont work very well at all since they are so far away. i would very much like to stay under $220 for the two pair but i also want good sound and am able to spend a lil more if i have to. the amp i will be using to run these speakers is a eD nine.4 any suggestions?

i also ordered a bunch of edead to quiet the rattles from such a big body i also will be needing to upgrade the ALT but seem to be having trouble finding one.ill deal with that later right now speakers is the name of the game :D

The 99-02 quest has 125 amp alt and the 99 older has 110 I think youll be more then fine.

You can actually make your own adapter out of hdf or mdf and run 6.5's. I'd look into the ed comp sets.

yea im pretty sure your right on the ALT specs are correct
but since the nine.1 can draw up to 130 amps by itself not including the nine.4 the radio cell phone etc on a rainy night with lights on, wipers, radio that will a bit to much for the stock alt i think.
i did take a look at the ed comps and i liked everything about them except the tweeter i would rather have a adjustable tweeter other than that the only thing that stopped me from buying them was the 2.8 mounting depth the speakers i have seen that will fit all had a mounting depth of less than 2.5 .
altho today i was taking a closer look in the van and the front door panels bulge out about 3/4"-1" from the rest of the panel where the speakers are so if i made the spacer out of 1/2" mdf that would leave an indoor mounting depth of 2.3 more than enough room but then the mid might hit the door panel . not sure tho ..

I would look at the doors and see if you can find any way to mount them. I got 3 5/8 inch depth in my pathfinder:).

That current draw will be peak. Thats what your battery is for. Get an optima battery and upgrade the big three and you'll be fine. The ed 6000 are going to be great for the price. I highly recommend getting them. (especially if you have 25% off)

My diamond amps are a 600.1 and a 600.4 both are underrated and I'm fine with the stock 90 amp alt on my pathfinder.

yea i was actually checking them out again just before reading your post and im definatly considering them the page is still open on the forum discount page of eD there is a $25 off a pair of 6000 coupon thats is alot of speaker for the $$$ no doubt about it and with a little help of the old dremel they should fit ... but then what will i do for rear fill? i doubt comps way back there would be cost effective? or do u think i should do comps all around? or just mids in the back? or something else coax maybe?

To be honest rear fill is 100% pointless for people in the front seat. WHen I turn my rear fill off my stereo sounds no different. If you drive people around in the back seats pic up a cheap set of Coax's and run them off you hu for rear fill. Those ed speaks are a steal @ 25% off.

yea but in my case i dont think its totally pointless as this is the family minivan people sit back there ALL the time hence the reason why i have a mninivan lol im thinking i might just do 6000[i] all around and fade to forward when im alone ( hardly ever) but im still looking into cheaper options for the rear tho my understanding is 4 6000 ed[i] run off a nine.4 would sound sweet i was talking to eD cust support and they said the nine4 is actually closer to 90x4 then 65x4 almost a perfect match for the 6000's

I would just get a set of CDT coax's from thezeb.com. The ed's are designed by cdt and are basically the classic series. A set of CDT coax's shouold be fine. My rear passengers used to hear alot of bass but now they hear some midrange too. Just be sure it doesn't hurt your staging too much.

darn the only 6 1/2" cdt coax they have there are the CDT Audio CL-6X 6-1/2" and those are 80w max im guessing aroung 35-40 rms im off to look around some more.
i spent some more time checking out my door panels today and noticed about 5 different places for tweeter placement i think the eds will be perfect up front now that ive gotten a better look

Running them off your hu would be fine trust me. Just set your gains at a reasonable level and don't blow them. Its not really an issue. They would be a great option.

whelp i just ordered the ed 6000 for 125 :) im still floored by that price for comps.... i hope they sound good going on word of mouth
and some cheap coax for the rear polk 6x8 60w rms on sale at the crutch super cheapo
now on to the fun part ... the actual install hehe i got lots and lots of edead that needs laying down
